We recently completed a stunning stone patio project that stands as a testament to our team’s craftsmanship and collaborative spirit. The property owner had hired a company to complete this project and came to us for help to redesign as it was done poorly and not to their satisfaction.
The previous company installed flagstones directly over the original concrete patio with sand which doesn’t allow for correct water drainage and in time will essentially wash away all the sand making this installation not sustainable. In addition, the patio construction and stones were not placed with care or visual consideration to make an aesthetically pleasing structure. The owner had not been able to use the patio since it was built 8 months prior.
Our company took on this project to help the owner achieve what they had originally asked for which was a beautiful and durable outdoor patio. Here’s a look at the journey we undertook to recreate this beautiful outdoor space:
Project Overview
Our company had to start from the beginning by removing all the flagstones and sand. Then moved forward with the rebuild which included power washing the patio and stones, then installing a layer of stainless steel mesh over the concrete. This strengthens and aid’s the concrete under tension preventing future joint cracks. Next we placed stones with precision by chiseling (this is the most important part of working with stone) and rearranging so they fit naturally near each other with equal joint space between.
The final step was to fill the joints with mortar mix providing sustainable strength for a long lasting patio and a seamless surface that exudes elegance.
